The original version of Beauty and the Beast was released on November 22, 1991. The new version of Beauty and the Beast was released on March 17, 2017 in theaters.
The director of the movie was Bill Condon. Some of the main characters of the movie are Emma Watson (Belle), Dan Stevens (The Beast), Luke Evans (Gaston), Josh Gad (LeFou), Kevin Kline (Maurice), and Emma Thompson (Mrs. Potts). All of the actors were absolutely amazing in the movie. There were a lot of differences as well as similarities between Beauty and the Beast 1991 and 2017.
Both movies follow the same story line as well as the same characters. Majority of the songs were the same, except for a couple new ones in the 2017 version. The 1991 version didn’t have as many songs as the new one. Gaston and Belle are a little different in the 2017 version.
In the 2017 version, Gaston ties Belle’s father, Maurice, to a tree and leaves him there. He is more of a villain in this movie. In 1991 he wasn’t really nice but he was a little more concerned about Belle and her father, he wasn’t as evil. According to KIMT.com, Belle comes off as a bit of a snob. In the 1991 version Belle rejected Gaston because “he’s no good.” But, in the 2017 version she rejects him because “he’s not good enough for her.” Of course two movies aren’t going to be exactly the same, but the characters should at least act mostly the same way.
Besides that, this movie is absolutely amazing. I liked watching it live instead of animated. All of the costumes were made by Jacqueline Durran and they all looked really nice. Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Cogsworth (Ian McKellen) both looked amazing. All of the characters in the movie looked really good, even the Beast. I thought that the Beast wasn’t actually going to look that good, but he did, he looked real. This movie was exactly what I had expected and more. So, in my opinion the 1991 movie was good, but I honestly thought that the 2017 was a little better and I think a lot of other people agree.
According to Fox News, Beauty and the Beast opened with an estimated $170 million in North American ticket sales and $180 million international, and that’s only the first couple days. It costs about $160 million to make this movie and it was definitely worth it. This movie is the year’s top opening so far and one of March’s best releases.
According to Fortune.com, the animated version made nearly $425 million at the global box office 26 years ago. Which was more than $750 million in today’s dollars. For the new Beauty and the Beast, the estimated income from tickets sales, just for opening weekend, was going to land around $120 million. The sales were $60 million more than that, isn’t that amazing? The pre-ticket sales were higher than Disney’s 2016 biggest hits, Finding Dory and Captain America: Civil War. This is a movie you definitely won’t want to miss.
